Social Media Character Counter
Paste a post once and see how it fits every network PostQuest publishes to. Each count uses that network’s own rule, so X counts links as 23 and Bluesky counts an emoji as 1. Your text stays in your browser.
Character limits FAQ
Which social network allows the longest posts?
Facebook and YouTube allow 5,000 characters, LinkedIn 3,000, and Instagram and TikTok 2,200. X allows 280 on free accounts and 25,000 with a paid subscription.
Which network has the shortest limit?
X, at 280 characters for free accounts. Bluesky follows at 300 graphemes, then Threads and Mastodon at 500 characters.
Do all networks count characters the same way?
No. X counts every link as 23 and every emoji as 2. Bluesky counts what you see, so an emoji costs 1. The other networks do not publish their rule, so this counter uses the one PostQuest checks before publishing: one per Unicode character.
More than characters
Each network page explains its counting rule in detail. For image sizes and video limits, see the social media image sizes and specs.
Schedule posts that pass these checks
PostQuest validates every caption and file against these limits before a post is scheduled, so nothing fails at publish time.
